CME Program Alert: Perspectives in the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis for the Community-Based Gastroenterologist

Homestead, PA 04/20/2006 — The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is pleased to announce the launch of a new CME activity entitled Perspectives in the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis for the Community-Based Gastroenterologist. This activity is made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from Centocor, Inc.
Available online at http://www.cemedicus.com/uccme, the program informs participants about the most current data on the diagnosis and treatment of ulcerative colitis, focusing on emerging treatment options. Clinicians will be updated on recent clinical trial results, and will have an opportunity to compare and contrast conventional and emerging medical and surgical treatment options. Gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of ulcerative colitis are invited to participate in the free program led by Program Co-Chairs, Stephen Hanauer, MD, Professor of Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology and the Director, Section of Gastroenterology and Nutrition, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois; and William J. Sandborn, MD, Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine and Head, IBD Interest Group and Clinical Research Unit, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
At the conclusion of this continuing medical education activity, the participant should be able to: describe the typical disease course in a patient with ulcerative colitis, compare and contrast currently available pharmacologic options for ulcerative colitis, describe post surgical complications associated with the surgical treatment of ulcerative colitis and the subsequent management, and discuss recent clinical trials of emerging pharmacological treatment options for ulcerative colitis and identify strengths, limitations and implications for future treatments for this disease.
