FREE CME Activity Alert: Managing and Preventing Atherothrombotic Events in the Stroke Patient
SOURCE: The Discovery Institute of Medical Education (DIME)
10:22AM, October 26, 2006
Chicago, Illinois – October 26, 2006 – The Discovery Institute of Medical Education (DIME) is pleased to announce the launch of a CME titled Managing and Preventing Atherothrombotic Events in the Stroke Patient. This archived webconference is a FREE activity and is supported by an educational grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb/Sanofi Pharmaceuticals Partnership.
Available online at www.cemedicus.com/athero. The CME web conference originally took place on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 8PM EDT / 5PM PDT.
The activity informs participants about the common risk factors shared by patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), cerebrovascular disease (CVD), and coronary artery disease (CAD), and the importance of diagnosing PAD. Health care providers should understand that stroke prevention requires long-term management to reduce risks. Treatment programs should address risk factors, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, and smoking, and include antithrombotic therapy. As such, clinicians should be aware of clinical trials of pharmacotherapies to manage these risks.
Clinicians who have in interest in stroke and PAD are invited to participate in this free program featuring two distinguished faculty. Mark J. Alberts, M.D., is Professor of Neurology at Northwestern University Medical School and Director of the Stroke Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. William R. Hiatt, M.D., is President of the Colorado Prevention Center and Professor and Chief of Vascular Medicine at the University of Colorado.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to recognize the heightened risk for atherothrombotic disease such as CAD and/or PAD in patients with prior stroke or TIA; understand and apply effective treatment strategies for managing patients at risk for secondary stroke, PAD, and/or CAD; and understand the importance of medical therapy and revascularization in preventing further ischemic events after a stroke or TIA.
Accreditation Statement The Discovery Institute of Medical Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. DIME designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
