Call for Nominees of
The Holt Young Physician Leadership Award
As a proud supporter and advocate of resident physicians, Southern Medical Association (SMA) is proud to announce the call for this year’s nominees of The Holt Young Physician Leadership Award. This award not only recognizes the astute learner, but also the qualities of compassion, servanthood, honesty and perseverance, as exhibited by true leaders. Therefore, SMA would like to request the honor of receiving recommendations for prominent candidates from institutions across the nation and for whom their medical peers feel would be a worthy recipient of this prestigious award.
The Holt Young Physician Leadership Award is awarded to a senior or chief resident who shows the promise of a future career of outstanding leadership in healthcare. Nominees can either be in the process of beginning or completing their senior or chief year at the time of the nomination. Also, nominations must be received from either a GME Dean or Program Director in the form of a letter of support from the nominating person. This letter should detail qualities exhibited by the nominee which showcase his/her leadership skills. Award criteria also require the submission of a resume from the nominee. The deadline for award nominations is May 1, 2008
The winner of The Holt Young Physician award will receive a $5,000 cash award, as well as an all-expense paid trip to Nashville, Tennessee in which to receive their award at the Opening Ceremony of SMA’s Annual Scientific Assembly this August. Please note, due to the prominence of this award, the winner must be able to attend this ceremony the morning of August 7, 2008.
The 2007 Holt Young Physician Award was presented to Robert L. Oldham, MD from Richmond, Virginia during the SMA Annual Scientific Assembly this past November in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Oldham is completing his residency as chief psychiatry resident at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia.
As a leader in providing physicians with opportunities to strengthen, enhance and build their life and practice, Southern Medical Association is also proud to support today’s residents in their current role as they prepare to become future leaders in the medical community.
