Live Grand Rounds Lecture on Pediatric Trauma Treatment

A sobering statistic: Fully 90 percent of child deaths are a result of injury, or trauma. On May 1st at 8:00am in a grand rounds lecture from Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, Barbara Gaines, MD, director of the Benedum Pediatric Trauma Program at Children's will examine the causes of injury to kids, unique Children's treatments and at-risk populations. In presentation titled "Pediatric Trauma: Evaluation, Treatment and Prevention," she will underscore the differences between evaluating children with trauma and evaluating adults with trauma, and also will discuss newer management techniques such as the cooling therapy used in the management of TBI, or traumatic brain injury. Finally, she will discuss measures that can be taken to prevent injury and trauma.
