Southern Medical Association Presents Advances in Medicine 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee

Birmingham, Alabama – The Southern Medical Association (SMA), will present their Centennial Scientific Assembly, Advances in Medicine 2008, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, August 7-9, 2008.

The Annual Scientific Assembly is the Southern Medical Association’s premier educational event, enabling physicians to practice the highest standards of medicine by fostering professional development and economic stability through education, services, collegiality, and leadership across multiple specialties.

The Assembly offers a multi-faceted curriculum of activities for attendees by allowing opportunities for enhancement of clinical skills, research and clinical experience presentations, benefits from new and emerging techniques, participation in peer-directed sessions addressing specialty and interdisciplinary topics, and interaction with nationally-renowned experts. In addition to lectures and case presentations, the Assembly provides a forum for interacting and mentoring among healthcare professionals, exchanging clinical information, and participating in scientific sessions and poster presentations.

Scientific sessions have been developed for Physicians (MDs and DOs), as well as residents and fellows in specialty and disease-based tracks for:
Oncology, Surgery, and Plastic Surgery;
Medicine Specialty: Non-Specialty Care for the Specialist; Orthopaedic, Trauma, and Critical Care; Dermatology;
Women’s Health.

With real and relevant material for a range of specialties including Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Geriatric Medicine, Gynecology, Medicine, Obstetrics, Oncology, Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery, Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Radiology, and Surgery. Other members of the healthcare team including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, first responders, registered nurses, medical students, and technicians, will benefit from the information presented.

Conference attendees will also enjoy a host of activities and visitor opportunities during their visit to Nashville, including vibrant new entertainment venues on Demonbruen Street, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, and the Music City Walk of Fame and Museum, as well as the SMA Golf Tournament.
